Command Sergeant Major Starrenzo Cummings was born and raised in a small community near Swainsboro and enlisted into the Georgia Army National Guard in 1997. He started his military career as an Army Infantryman (11B) attending Basic Training in Fort Benning in 1997 and went on to Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, VA in 1998. CSM Cummings has served in numerous units throughout his 26-year military career. Assigned units include the 878th Engineer Battalion in Augusta where he served as a petroleum supply specialist for the first 17 years. He then served as Platoon Sergeant at Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB) at Fort Gordon and WTB at Fort Stewart, First Sergeant at Echo CO 148th BSB in Metter and Fox CO 148th BSB in Savannah, Operations NCOIC for Warrior Transition Command in Arlington, VA (Pentagon) and Battalion Maintenance Supervisor at 78th Troop Command in Marietta. During his tenure with the 878th ENG BN, CSM Cummings deployed to Taji, Iraq in 2003 and Khandahar, Afghanistan in 2013. He most recently served as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major for the 148th Brigade Support Battalion.
CSM Cummings received his bachelor’s degree in business management and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in human resources. His military education includes Sergeant Majors Academy, Equal Opportunity Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer, Primary Leadership Development Course with Honors, Senior Leadership Course with Honors, Warrior Transition Cadre Course, Master Driver Course, HAZMAT Certifying Official Course, the Master Resilience Training Course, Battalion Command Team Pre-Command Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education II Courses and OSHA 30.

CSM Cummings awards and citations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (3), Army Achievement Medal (2), Army Good Conduct Medal with Medal Clasp, Army Reserve Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 10-year Device Bronze Hourglass, Army Service Ribbon, Over Seas Service Ribbon and NATO Medal.
CSM Cummings currently resides in Arlington, VA and works as an Action Officer (DOD Civilian) for the Army Recovery Care Program. ARCP is a program mandated by Congress designed to manage the recovery of our wounded, ill and injured soldiers requiring complex care.
CSM Cummings has one 18-year-old daughter, Destiny Cummings.
