The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting Monday, December 11, at 9:15 a.m. With Chair John Tapley presiding, there were 46 in attendance including one new veteran, Charles Joseph Clarkson. He served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Infantry Division from 1970 to 1990. Chuck is a veteran of Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. He was stationed in Vietnam and the Middle East during his career. His highest rank was Major. Chair Johnny welcomed the new veteran and mentioned that they needed to pass out the cards that they have to other veterans. If you are a veteran, meet at the library at 9:15 a.m. each Monday morning. They would be glad to have you. Johnny also mentioned that they will be receiving the wreaths around Thursday or Friday of this week and that they will be placing them on the graves of veterans in Emanuel County on Saturday, December 16. The main event will be at the Swainsboro City Cemetery to start at 10 a.m. on. The ROTC units from Emanuel County and the Compatriots of the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution will participate in the event. ROTC will be the Color Guard and the Compatriots will be firing three volleys with their Flintlocks and four Cannons. After the 3-round volley, Veteran Scotty Nasworthy will play taps on his bugle, then volunteers will place wreaths on 684 veterans’ graves in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
