Nine ECI softball players received post-season honors recently. Five Lady Dawgs were selected as first team all-region and four were honored as second team all-region. Two players took top honors.
Jayna Kearson was honored as offensive player of the year. The leadoff junior led the region in almost every offensive category this season. Mary Katherine Durden was selected as region pitcher of the year. The freshman pitched virtually all innings for the Lady Dawgs this season. This is the third Lady Dawg player selected as pitcher of the year. Selected as first team all-region were shortstop Jayna Kearson, at third base Lola Walden, second base Kayanna Thompson, catcher Dot Russell and pitcher Mary Katherine Durden. Chosen as second team all-region are Kinley Grimes first base, Abbey Marsh in left field, Jarei Oglesby at center and Jenna Roberson in right field.
All but one of these players, senior Jarei Oglesby, will return to play for the Lady Dawgs next season for another region and state championship run.
